Macmillan coffee morning at Park View Ipswich

Cake, bingo and a lot of heart: our Macmillan Coffee Morning

There’s something about a coffee morning that brings everyone together. This year, we joined thousands of communities across the country for Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, and Park View was buzzing from start to finish.

A table worth getting up for

Our kitchen team went all out. The table was covered in Macmillan green and loaded with homemade bakes: a classic Victoria sponge, cherry Bakewell slices, fresh scones and tiers of cupcakes iced in green, each topped with a little Macmillan disc. It was almost a shame to eat them. Almost.

Behind it all was our wall of Hollywood greats, from Bogart to Monroe. That gave the morning a touch of old-school glamour, and it got plenty of people reminiscing too.

Eyes down

No coffee morning at Park View would be complete without bingo. Residents, families and staff filled the lounge, dabbers at the ready, with prizes that kept the competition friendly but fierce. A box of Milk Tray and a bottle of Prosecco both went to very happy winners. You could hear the “house!” calls from down the corridor.

Made by hand, given with heart

One of the loveliest parts of the morning was our craft stall. Residents spent weeks making pressed-flower pictures in wooden frames, glass frames and on slate, alongside handmade bookmarks. Every flower was chosen and arranged by hand. There were also practical walker bags and armchair bags, perfect for keeping glasses, remotes and bits and bobs close by. All proceeds went to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Why it matters

Almost everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. Macmillan is there for people and their families when they need it most. Mornings like this are a small way of saying we’re with them too.

We raised £109 on the day. Thank you to everyone who baked, bought, played and gave so generously. A special thank you goes to our residents, whose hard work on the craft stall made such a difference.

Same time next year? We’ll put the kettle on ready for you.
